In the beginning...

At the end of the 19th century, numerous health movements arose in Europe. In 1899 fundamental Christians living near Magdeburg united to produce and sell healthy vegetarian foods.

Based on their understanding of the Bible, they recognised that humans are responsible in the eyes of God for maintaining their physical health.

This conviction soon led to the founding of De-Vau-Ge Gesundkostwerk, an institution which belongs to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and which today has over 30 health food operations worldwide.

The first products produced by De-Vau-Ge were crispy flakes made from whole wheat, barley or rice. Other well-known foods included nut purées, children's foods and the 'nut butter', famous at that time.

In 1912 the factory moved to Hamburg, continued to grow, and in the summer of 1976 established its current plant at Lüneburg.
